The Peak of Excellence: Charlie Carrel’s Retirement Decision

Charlie Carrel is a poker player who has made a fortune and gained spectacular attention through poker. His colossal wins and incredible rise during his early twenties captured the media’s attention and featured in publications such as The Sun, LadBible, and several other tabloid articles.

With an England All-Time Money List rank of 3rd and an All-Time Money List rank of 93rd during his peak career, Charlie Carrel established himself as one of the pro poker players of his time. However, despite his undeniable success, he decided to retire at the peak of his career, disappearing from competition and poker casino games.

Did he lose interest in the game? Or is there something else that has swayed him from his lifelong passion? Today’s casino news will examine Charlie Carrel’s poker career and personal life, revealing what could have caused his sudden retirement.

Charlie Carrel: Beginning and Early Retirement of a Genius

Charles Francis Carrel was bullied as a boy due to his intelligence and inability to socialize easily. He was born in St. Brelade, Jersey, Channel Islands, on November 7, 1993. At age 7, Carrel relocated with his family to London. He learned the rudiments of poker at age 8 but didn’t play until his teens. He excelled at math, and that would be the reason for his analytical approach to poker in the future.

Carrel became enthused with poker in high school and began playing low-stakes SNGs with friends. In 2013, he became convinced to start playing online poker. So, he opened a £10 online poker account under the screen name “Epiphany77,” where he focused on learning the game’s nuances through constant practice.

To further avoid distractions, Carrel later relocated to his grandmother’s house. Carrel grew his account balance to $39.84 and progressively to $1,328.07.

He launched onto the live tournament scene in 2014, showcasing his skills at the EPT in April.

The Reason Behind Charlie Carrel’s Retirement

Charlie undoubtedly has a burning passion for the game. Like a player who knows what is two pair in poker and tries to make the best of it, he had already crafted a life roadmap for himself—education, schooling, poker, business, and philanthropy, in that order. Though he admittedly said, “I was making seven figures a year. I was crushing, I had fame and love and appreciation and validation and stuff I never had as a kid. And, to step away from that was hard.”

However hard it is, Charlie has decided to pursue his dream beyond poker, as he admittedly sees the game as a means to an end.
